About Tropical Essence | About Ruth-Ann King
Ruth-Ann Melissa King is a self-taught
artist, naturally gifted with her hands and very passionate about creating
things generally. Recently, she engaged in training with California
Institute of Jewellry Training and completed courses in Yemin Filigree and
Stone Setting. Also an Interior Designer – she decorates for weddings, parties and any occasion while at the same time creates and manufactures handmade paper products namely, stationery items, journals etc. Mrs. King recently achieved a NIFCA silver award for her paper in its basic form entitled “Khus Khus Grass.”
She also makes floral arrangements, accessory bags, shoes and belts from all types of medium. One of her recent passions are bottles (again borne out the need to create something beautiful from something ordinary) twined and accentuated so they can be functional as well as artistic.
One of her most recent accomplishments was being awarded the grand prize in her category – Manufacturing & Retail - at the Youth Entrepreneurship Schemes’ expo held in November 2006 at Mall Internationale.
Her most prestigious accomplishment in her copper line to date has been the pleasure of designing and making the accessories for our own Miss Barbados/Universe, Jewel Garner. In November 2007, she received the BIDC National Industrial Awards– Sector Development Award in Craft – Best Designed and Unique Product for 2007.
The designer’s objective and driving force is to ensure each time a client purchases a piece of jewelry that it fits in with their personality, taste and preferences. One of her slogans is “IT EXPRESSES YOU, THE TRUE YOU.”
